The Onnenai Visitor Center (温根内ビジターセンター) is the main entrance to the Onnenai area of Kushiro Shitsugen National Park. Here, you can get maps, learn about the marsh’s unique ecosystem, and prepare for your walk on the famous Onnenai Boardwalk. The center is barrier-free and offers a comfortable rest stop before or after exploring the wetlands.
The center features educational displays about the marsh’s plants, birds, and animals. Friendly staff provide information on the best walking routes and seasonal highlights. There’s a small shop for souvenirs and snacks, and clean restrooms are available.
Locals say the spirits of the marsh watch over visitors from the reeds. The Visitor Center is said to be a place where people and nature meet in harmony, guided by these gentle guardians.
Local saying:
「ビジターセンターは湿原の心」
Translation:
"The Visitor Center is the heart of the marsh."
