Onnenai Boardwalk (温根内木道) is a wooden path stretching deep into the Kushiro Shitsugen National Park. This easy, accessible trail lets you experience the marsh’s unique ecosystem up close—without getting your feet wet! The boardwalk is famous for wildflowers, birdwatching, and serene wetland views.
The boardwalk is flat and well-maintained, making it suitable for all ages. In spring and summer, the marsh bursts with blooming flowers and singing birds. The Onnenai Visitor Center at the entrance offers maps, exhibits, and a place to rest before or after your walk.
Locals say the marsh “whispers” on quiet mornings, as wind and water move through the reeds. Some believe these whispers are messages from the spirits of the wetlands, protecting the rare plants and animals that live here.
Local saying:
「湿原のささやきは自然の声」
Translation:
"The marsh’s whispers are the voice of nature."
