The Sarubo Observatory (サルボ展望台) is a scenic viewpoint in Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Sarubo marsh and the vast Kushiro wetlands. A short hike through a tranquil forest leads you to the observatory, where you can enjoy the ever-changing landscape and spot wild birds.
The observatory is a perfect spot for photography, birdwatching, and quiet contemplation. The wooden deck provides a safe and comfortable place to take in the scenery. Early morning and sunset are especially beautiful, with mist rising from the marsh and cranes flying overhead.
Local folklore says that the Sarubo marsh is protected by the spirits of ancient cranes. Visitors are encouraged to pause and listen to the wind, which is said to carry the voices of these gentle guardians.
Local saying:
「サルボの風は鶴の声」
Translation:
"The wind of Sarubo carries the voice of the cranes."
