Mikuni Pass (三国峠, 1,139m) is the highest national highway pass in Hokkaido, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Daisetsuzan mountains and endless forests. The observation deck is a popular stop for travelers crossing between Kamikawa and Tokachi, especially during autumn when the landscape is ablaze with color.
Opened in 1920, Mikuni Pass has long been a vital route connecting northern and eastern Hokkaido. The observation deck and rest house provide a perfect spot to take in the vast Tokachi-Mitsumata forests and the distant peaks of Daisetsuzan. The area is especially famous for its autumn foliage, but the views are spectacular from late spring to early autumn.
